Florence and Pisa
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN FLORENCE AND GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF THE HISTORIC CENTRE AND OF THE ACCADEMIA GALLERY
Group is welcomed at arrival point, accompanied to 4-star hotel. Free time for lunch.
PM: an official guide leads a panoramic walking tour of key historic and artistic sites and monuments: piazza Signoria, the square alongside the Uffizi gallery, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Repubblica, Dante’s Quarter. The walk then proceeds through Piazza Duomo to go to the Accademia, the museum that houses Michelangelo’s David, one of the most famous statues of all time, and other famous works by the grand master of the Italian Renaissance, Free time.
Lunch in a restaurant in the city centre. Return to the hotel.
Day 2: FIRENZE FULL DAY: UFFIZI AND DUOMO (from Monday to Friday afternoon, except the 1st Tuesday of the month).
Breakfast in the hotel.
AM: meeting with guide for a tour of the Uffizi gallery, the extraordinary museum where you can marvel at the most famous paintings from the italian Renaissance.
Free time for lunch.
PM: official guided tour: the itinerary takes visitors into the monuments of Piazza Duomo, including the inner Baptistery where extraordinary marble inlays and guilded mosaics from the thirteenth century are still kept; the Duomo which retains the great sixteenth century frescos by Vasari depicting the Last Judgement, and the crypt with the remains of the previous church of Santa Reparata; the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo that houses the most famous and priceless original woks of art coming from the religious complex, including the ‘Gates of Paradise’, the Bandini Pietà by Michelangelo, Saint Mary Magdalene and the singing gallery by Donatello, and the reconstruction of the work-site of Brunelleschi for the building of the dome. Free time.
Dinner in a restaurant in the city centre. Return to the hotel.
Day 3: PISA
Breakfast in the hotel.
AM: Transport by bus to Pisa. Meeting with guide for a tour of the historic centre. Piazza dei Miracoli is the core of the town, its grandiose religious centre: the Cathedral (tour also inside) is one of the foremost examples of Pisan Romanesque and shows all the typical features of this style -blind arch motifs, inlay patterns, ornamental sculptures. The Baptistery, the largest in Italy, marks the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style; and the world-famous leaning tower. The walk then proceeds through Piazza dell’Arcivescovado e Piazza dei Cavalieri.
Lunch in a typical restaurant in the Tuscan country.
PM: Transfer by bus for the visit to the Certosa di Calci, one of the greatest religious monuments in the surroundings of Pisa.
Return to pick up point.
