Archaeology and antiquities in Florence
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN FIRENZE -PANORAMIC WALKING TOUR OF THE CENTRE AND VISIT TO THE MUSEUM OF PALAZZO VECCHIO
Group is welcomed at point of arrival, accompanied to 4-star hotel and settled into accommodation.
Later, an official guide leads a panoramic walking tour for overview of main sites and highlights, including the Duomo, piazza Santa Elisabetta, the Signoria, where the visit goes on to the Museum of Palazzo Vecchio where, among the other works, some rests of the Roman theatre have been found underground.
Dinner in a restaurant in the city centre. Return to the hotel.
Day 2: FLORENCE – MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGY, MUSEUM OF THE ‘INNOCENTI’, ACCADEMY GALLERY
Breakfast in the hotel.
AM: meeting with guide of the Museum of Archaeology, where marvel at the great Etruscan bronze statues, the large collection of Greek vases and the Egiptian section -one of the biggest in Italy.
Then to the near Museum of the ‘Innocenti’, just reopened to the public where, before of the tour you there’s time to enjoy a break at the panoramic cafeteria for a coffee or a cappuccino. The Museo hosts works by Luca della Robbia, Pontormo e del Ghirlandaio.
Lunch in a restaurant nearby.
PM: Guided tour of the Accademy Gallery, the museum that keeps the famous David and the Slaves by Michelangelo. Free time.
Return to the hotel. Dinner in a restaurant in the city centre.
Day 3: SAN MINIATO, MUSUM SIVIERO, PRINTING HOUSE ‘IL BISONTE’
AM: Trasfer by bus to the hill of San Miniato al Monte for the guided tour of the church with the same name, imposing and rare example of florentine Romanesque style.
Then, walk along the panoramic road that passes through the ‘Garden of the Roses’ to go back down to the banks of the Arno river and for the visit to the Museum Rodolfo Siviero, known as the ‘007 agent of Italian art’, who got back many of the works stolen during the Second World War. This was his private eclectic collection that includes paintings by De Chirico and also some archaeological finds.
Lunch: extraordinary opening of the small garden of the museum where, besides typical tuscan dishes, some remade from the Etruscan tradition will be tasted.
PM: Short walk for the visit to the art printing house Il Bisonte, where an introductory outline about its activity will be given and where it’s possible to tour the gallery that hosts temporary exhibitions.
Dinner in a restaurant in the city centre.
Day 4: FIESOLE
Breakfast in the hotel. AM: Trasfer by bus to Fiesole. Meeting with an official guide: tour of the centre with the Duomo and the archaelogical area, site for the Museum and the Etruscan and Roman excavation, the only place around Florence where is still possible to admire some ruins of the Roman town in the open air. Free time to walk up to San Francesco where a splendid panorama of Florence is to be enjoined.
Lunch in a typical restaurant in the centre of Fiesole. Trasfer by bus to Florence. Free time.
Return to pick up point.
